EUG 2026: The final showdown
The European Universities Games 2026 are entering their final chapter, with six sports reaching the decisive stages of competition.
On the second-to-last day of the Games, 3x3 Basketball, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Football, Handball and Tennis all delivered another action-packed programme, setting the stage for an exciting final day, full of matches and medals to be awarded.
The 3x3 Basketball tournament continued with the final matches of the group stage before heading into the knockout stage with the Last 16, where the race for the medals intensified.
Alongside the tournament action, spectators also enjoyed two of the discipline's most spectacular side events. The Shoot-Out Contest crowned the best long-distance shooters in both the men's and women's competitions, challenging players to score as many baskets as possible from designated spots within a limited time. The men’s Shoot-Out Contest was won by Juan Manuel Cebolla Herrera from the University of Seville (ESP), whereas Madalena Picado from the University of Aveiro (POR) reported the victory in the women’s event.

The day also featured the qualification round of the Men's Dunk Contest, with the top performers earning their place in tomorrow’s final, where athleticism and creativity will take centre stage.
The Badminton individual competition moved another step closer to its conclusion as players progressed from the Round of 32 through to the quarterfinals. Following another day of high-level performances, the semifinalists in the singles and doubles events have now been confirmed, as the battle for the European Universities Games titles reaches its climax.

The Beach Volleyball competition also entered its decisive phase, with the knockout rounds determining the semifinalists in both the men's and women's tournaments. After several days of intense competition on the sand courts at the UNISA Campus Baronissi, the remaining teams are now just one victory away from securing a place in the gold medal finals.

The Football tournament continued with the semifinal matches, as the remaining teams battled for a place in the championship match. The winners secured their spots in tomorrow's final, while the defeated sides will meet in the bronze medal match, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the competition.

The Handball tournament also reached its semifinal stage, with teams competing for a place in the title-deciding match. Victorious sides advanced to tomorrow's final, while the remaining semifinalists will contest the bronze medal, promising a thrilling finish to the tournament.

Also Tennis is now ready for the finals. The semifinal stage is completed in both the men's and women's tournaments, and the finalists have now been determined after a series of closely contested matches.

With the finish line now in sight, excitement is building across the venues in Salerno. Tomorrow, the European Universities Games 2026 will reach its conclusion as the final champions are crowned, bringing to a close this incredible celebration of university sport and friendship.
