Rugby 7s crowned its champions at the European Universities Games 2026, while the Badminton individual tournament officially got underway.

At the same time, the action continued in 3x3 Basketball, Beach Volleyball and Football, as Tennis and Handball entered their decisive stages with the semifinalists confirmed in both competitions. 

After three days of fast-paced, high-intensity competition, the Rugby 7s tournament came to an exciting conclusion, bringing together the strongest university teams to compete for the titles. 

In the men's competition, the University of Coimbra (POR) claimed the gold medal after defeating the University of Rennes (FRA) in a thrilling final. University of Vic (ESP) secured the bronze medal, completing the podium after another impressive performance.

The traditional Wooden Spoon Award in the men's competition went to the University of Salerno (ITA), and in the women's competition was awarded to the University of Granada (ESP).

MVP award in the men's competition went into the hands of Guillermo Costa from the University of Coimbra. 

The women's title was won by the University of Lyon (FRA), with the University of Clermont Auvergne (FRA) winning the silver medal and the University of Zaragoza (ESP) earning the bronze medal, respectively. 

In the women's competition, the Fair Play Award was won by Elia Bruat from the University of Clermont Auvergne, while the MVP award went in the hands of Ilona Pedicone from the University of Lyon. 

To present the medals and awards were representatives of the institutional partners and local authorities, together with Yngvild Larsen Schei, EUSA Competition Chair for Rugby 7s and EC Member, and Maria Gyolcsos, EUSA Technical Delegate for Rugby 7s. 

In true rugby tradition, the tournament concluded in the spirit of the third half, a tradition reminding everyone that, once the final whistle has blown, sporting rivalry gives way to friendship and mutual respect.

While Rugby 7s reached its conclusion, both Tennis and Handball entered the decisive stages of their competitions. Quarterfinal victories determined the semifinalists in both sports, leaving just four teams in each draw still in the running for the titles. With a place in the finals now within reach, the upcoming semifinal matches promise another day of high-level university sport. 

The intensity is rising on the 3x3 basketball court, where quick transitions, long-range shooting and one-on-one battles are defining the race towards the knockout stage. Every possession counts as teams compete at a relentless pace in pursuit of a place among the finalists.

As the Beach Volleyball competition continues at the European Universities Games 2026, teams are embracing the challenge of the sand, where agility, communication and tactical awareness are just as important as power. Every rally demands quick reactions and precise teamwork, with each match bringing exciting exchanges and hard-fought points as the race for the knockout stage and medals intensifies.

Following the conclusion of the team event, the focus has shifted to the individual Badminton competitions, where players are competing in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Precision, agility and tactical play are on full display as athletes progress through the draw with their sights set on individual honours.

The Football competition has entered its decisive phase, with every match carrying greater significance as teams battle for a place in the medal rounds. Fast-paced attacks, disciplined defending and determined performances continue to deliver exciting contests across the tournament.

As EUG 2026 enters its final stretch, new champions continue to emerge alongside unforgettable performances and inspiring displays of teamwork and fair play.
