EUG 2026: NUSA Coordination Meeting

On July 17, 2026, representatives of the National University Sports Associations (NUSA) participating in the European Universities Games 2026, together with representatives of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and the Local Organising Committee, gathered at the University of Salerno for the NUSA Coordination Meeting ahead of the official opening of the Games on the following day.

The NUSA Coordination Meeting opened with welcome addresses from EUSA President Haris Pavletic and representatives of the Local Organising Committee.

Welcoming the participants to Salerno, the EUSA President thanked the National University Sports Associations for their commitment to university sport and for bringing their teams to the Games.

He also thanked both the Organising Committee and the EUSA staff for their dedication, acknowledging that while organising an event of this scale comes with challenges, close cooperation between all stakeholders will help resolve any issues. Looking ahead to the Opening Ceremony, he also highlighted the significant logistical effort involved in transporting participants to the event.

Speaking on behalf of the Local Organising Committee, Lorenzo Lentini, President of CUS Salerno, and Gianluca Basile, General Director of the University of Salerno, welcomed the NUSA representatives to Salerno and the European Universities Games 2026. Mr Lentini thanked EUSA for placing its trust in Italy as host of the European Universities Games 2026. He also expressed appreciation to the University of Salerno and everyone involved in delivering the event, emphasising the tremendous effort invested over the past years. Describing Salerno as a city ready to welcome Europe, he underlined that the Games represent not only sport, but also the values of peace, solidarity and fair play.

EUSA Secretary General Matjaz Pecovnik then stressed the importance of effective communication and timely information sharing throughout the Games. He welcomed the excellent attendance at the meeting and the positive atmosphere, noting that the first competitions were already getting underway successfully. He reassured the delegates that EUSA and the Organising Committee remain fully committed to supporting all participating delegations and ensuring a smooth and memorable experience in Salerno.

All of the speakers invited the NUSA representatives to collaborate as much as possible with the OC and EUSA, to make these games run as smoothly as possible and to ensure that everyone is having a great time.

Information about logistical issues, organisational matters and the Opening Ceremony was shared by Facundo Storani and Danilo Cunsolo, from the Organising Committee. The schedule and location of the transportation and other details regarding the march pass and the presence of the athletes and officials were presented.

A Q&A session moderated by Adam Roczek, EUSA Honorary President and Chair of the EUG 2026 Supervision, Control and Arbitration Commission (SCAC), followed, during which NUSA representatives raised questions and received answers on important matters related to their teams, the competitions and other logistical aspects of the Games.

This year's edition of the European Universities Games will start with a grand Opening Ceremony on the evening of July 18, held in the amazing setting of Piazza della Liberta in Salerno.
