EUG 2026: "1 Month to Go" Press Conference

EUG 2026:

With just one month remaining until the opening of the European Universities Games 2026, representatives of the Organising Committee and institutional partners gathered on June 19 in Salerno for an official press conference, reaffirming the city's readiness to host Europe's largest university sport event.

Moderated by journalist Marcello Festa, the press conference brought together representatives of the University of Salerno, local and regional authorities, EUSA, CUS Salerno and ADISURC, highlighting the close cooperation between all partners involved in delivering the eighth edition of the European Universities Games.

Opening the event, Rector of the University of Salerno Virgilio D'Antonio welcomed the participants and outlined the University's role in hosting and communicating the Games, while Campania Region President Roberto Fico addressed attendees through a video message, expressing his support and best wishes for the event.

Salerno Province President Geppino Parente highlighted the importance of the wider territory in welcoming participants from across Europe.

EUSA President Haris Pavletic, joining the press conference via video link, underlined the significance of reaching the final milestone before the Games.

"EUSA and the entire university sport community are extremely excited to have reached this crucial milestone of one month before the opening of the European Universities Games Salerno 2026. We are ready, and everyone is looking forward to the start of the eighth edition of the biggest university sport event in Europe."

He expressed gratitude to all partners forming the Organising Committee, describing them as the driving force behind the project, and acknowledged the collective efforts being made to finalise every detail ahead of the Games.

The President also thanked everyone contributing to the organisation of the event, emphasising that the Games will leave a lasting legacy for student-athletes, the academic community and the host city.

CUS Salerno President Lorenzo Lentini presented the current status of the competition venues, confirming that preparations are entering their final stage, while ADISURC President Emilio Di Marzio, also joining remotely, introduced the accommodation facilities that will host thousands of participants during the Games.

Thanks to EUG Salerno 2026, Unisound Web Radio, the official radio station of the University of Salerno, has finally been revived. It will serve as the official voice of the event before resuming its regular broadcasting schedule under the direction of Professor Alfonso Amendola, the Rector’s Delegate for the University Web Radio and Television.

Closing the press conference, Salerno Mayor Vincenzo De Luca emphasised the city's commitment to welcoming the European university sport community and presented Salerno as a dynamic Mediterranean city ready to host an unforgettable edition of the Games.

Taking place from July 18 to August 1, the European Universities Games 2026 will bring together thousands of student-athletes, officials and volunteers from across Europe, combining high-level sporting competitions with educational, cultural and social activities, while promoting the core values of university sport, friendship and international cooperation.
