EUC Winter Sports 2023: Press Conference
On Friday September 15 2023, the Organising Committee of the European Universities Winter Sports Championships in Val di Zoldo - Dolomites, held a press conference at Palazzo Ca’ Tron in Venice, Italy.

Held in the seat of Iuav University of Venice, the event was attended by Iuav University Rector Mr Benno Albrecht, Ca' Foscari University Sport Delegate Ms Maria Antonietta Baldo, Venice Municipality Councilor Ms Paola Mar, CUS Venezia President Mr Massimo Zanotto, Val di Zoldo Mayor Mr Camillo De Pellegrin, EUSA 1st Vice-President Mr Haris Pavletic and EUSA Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik.
The European Universities Winter Sports Championships will be held in Val di Zoldo (BL), Italy on December 18-21 2023. Organized by CUS Venezia, the event will offer university sport competition in the disciplines of Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding and Snow Volleyball, the latter as a demonstration discipline.
EUSA assigned the event to CUS Venezia in October 2021, following the submission of the bid dossier and the inspections conducted during the Italian National University Winter Championships of the same year.
CUS Venezia is organizing the event in close synergy with FederCUSI, Italian University Sport Federation, and with the support and patronage of Ca' Foscari University of Venice and Iuav University of Venice.

The bid and project were shared with the Val di Zoldo Municipality Administration and local economic operators, in a project path that began many years ago and was sponsored by the National Department of Sport, the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), Veneto Region and the Province of Belluno.

In addition to the December championships, a series of activities and initiatives have been planned to develop and create a direct and ongoing relationship between territory, European University Sport Association and European universities in order to promote the territory by increasing recognition at the international level, enhancing the places, infrastructure and hospitality of the valley and in general of the area of the Province of Belluno, not only as a place of reference for sports activities but also as a tourist place to be approached in all seasons.
The first result of these efforts was already seen in March 2023, when Val di Zoldo hosted EUSA - FISU Seminar from the 23rd to the 26th. 22 European Federations were present, with EUSA and International University Sports Federation (FISU) representatives: the occasion also saw the presentation of EUC Val di Zoldo 2023 as well as all the possibilities offered to the university world.
Additionally, the theme of sustainability will be of strong importance, with a focused communication able to provide precise information on a series of actions to limit the impact on the environment during the event.

In agreement with Ca' Foscari and Iuav Universities, with EUSA and FederCUSI, the search for volunteers for the European University Winter Sports Championships will aim to foster inclusion and integration by involving and giving the opportunity to collaborate to students who may be in situations of social difficulty.
Having defined a collaboration with the Unesco Dolomites Foundation, the Organising Committee is pleased to be able to disseminate specific guidelines and training moments to all participants regarding environmental protection and sustainable tourism.
About 600 daily attendees are expected at the event, including athletes, officials, organizational staff and volunteers who will stay in the area at least five days, in addition to those who will come independently to follow the event. Overall, at least 4,000 hotel stays are estimated.

The deadline to register is 18th of September.
