EUC Volleyball 2023 concludes in Braga

The European Universities Volleyball Championship has finally concluded on July 23rd with an exciting Closing Ceremony at UMinho Sports Complex, in Braga. 

Around 400 participants from 23 Universities from 10 countries took part in this year’s edition of the event.

Although the competition was full of anticipating matches, the fair-play spirit was always present. The Championship made it possible for a lot of people to get out of their comfort zone and experience new things and, above all, make unforgettable memories and play good volleyball games.

At the closing ceremony, the athlets and all attendees were greeted by Ms Margarida Isaias and Mr Felipe Santos, both thanking all of the people that made this championship possible, with great athmosphere and that build another set of great EUSA sport event memories. Mr Felipe Santos also presented gratitute awards to the Vice Rector of University of Minho Mr Eugenio Andrade and to Ms Margarida Isaias, President of the OC.

The medals and awards were presented by the President of the Organizing Committee, Ms Margarida Isaías, the EUSA Executive Committee Representative, Mr Filipe Santos, the Vice-Rectors of the University of Minho, Mr Eugénio Andrade and Mr Luís Amaral, Mr Pablo Martinez Martinez EUSA Technical Delegate for Volleyball and Mr Antionio Correa Benitez Assistant Technical Delegate. 

In women’s finals, we witnessed a title defenting moment when University of Bologna won an exciting final match against German Sport University Cologne and won the gold medal. University of Bologna was the European Universities Champion in Volleyball in the women's competiton from last year EUG 2022 in Lodz, Poland.

The bronze medal was well deserved and won by University of Zagreb. 

In men’s finals, the title of champion/s went to the West University of Timisoara  who won a thrilling final match against the University of Rostock.

The bronze medal went in the hands of University of Wurzburg.

Men’s Competition

1. West University of Timisoara (ROU)
2. University of Rostock (GER)
3. University of Wuzburg (GER)

Women’s Competition

1. University of Bologna (ITA)
2. German Sport University Cologne (GER)
3. University of Zagreb (CRO)

In the women’s competition, the Fair-Play award was given to German Sport University of Cologne (GER), while the Top Scorer award was given to Susanna Olivero from University of Turin Polytechnic (ITA) and the MVP award was given to Leonarda Grabic from University of Zagreb (CRO).

Concerning to the men’s competition, the Fair Play award went in the hands of University of Minho (POR). The Top Scorer award was given to Brentel Jannik from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (GER) , while the MVP award was given to Darius Catalin Campean from West University of Timisoara (ROU).

At the end of the Closing Ceremony, the EUSA flag was passed to the next Organizing Committee, from Hungarian University of Sports Science, inviting all the teams to join the next European Universities Volleyball Championship in 2025, taking place in the city of Budapest from 4th July to 11th July.

The European University Sports Association (EUSA) and the Organizing Commitee, thank all the athletes, officials, volunteers and participants for the great effort and showcasing true sports spirit, fair play and amazing work in making this European Universities Championship in Volleyball running smootly and with great results.
