EUC Table Tennis 2025 comes to an end in Burdur

The 13th European Universities Table Tennis Championship, organized by the European University Sports Association (EUSA) in cooperation with the Turkish University Sports Federation (TUSF), being hosted at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKU) came to an end with thrilling finals and Closing Ceremony.

The closing ceremony marked the official conclusion of the championship, celebrating the achievements of all participating athletes and universities. The event featured speeches from organizers and officials, and the awarding of medals and trophies. It served as a moment to reflect on the spirit of fair play, friendship, and international cooperation fostered throughout the competition. 

The event, taking place from 11–16 September 2025, gathered 132 athletes from across Europe to compete for the championship title.

In the women’s competition, Wroclaw University of Economics (POL) emerged as champions, followed by the University of Nottingham (UK) in second place. Paris Descartes University (FRA) and the University of Warsaw (POL) shared the bronze.

In the men’s competition, Zamojski Academy (POL) captured the championship title, with the University of Leipzig (GER) taking second place. Istanbul Aydın University (TUR) and Pantheon-Sorbonne University (FRA) both secured third place.

The top-ranking teams received their awards from Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Omer Tekşen, Dean of the Faculty of Sport Sciences Prof. Dr. Emrah Atay, and Organizing Committee Representative Asst. Prof. Dr. Mert Nalbant, EUSA SCAC Chair, Gyorgy Kovacs, EUSA Technical Delegate, Marcin Fidala, NUSA Representative, Ahsen Kucukdurmaz, as well as Organizing Committee Members Yakup Kose and Lecturer Emirhan Pehlivan.

The championship officially concluded with the individual competitions and final matches on 15–16 September, followed by the official award ceremony.

The European Universities Table Tennis Championship Burdur 2025 concluded with thrilling doubles finals. In the men’s doubles category, the champions were Sebestyen Kovacs and David Molnar from the University of Pecs, while in the women’s doubles, Tin Tin Ho and Jianqi Meng from the University of Nottingham claimed the title. Both pairs secured a golden victory after a series of unforgettable matches, showcasing outstanding teamwork and skill.

In the women’s singles competition, Anna Wegrzyn from Wroclaw University of Economics (POL) claimed the gold medal, while her teammate Katarzyna Wegrzyn secured silver. The bronze medals were shared by Tin Tin Ho and Jianqi Meng of the University of Nottingham (UK).

In the men’s singles competition, Szymon Kolasa from Zamojski Academy (POL) captured the gold medal, while Rundong Liu of Pantheon-Sorbonne University (FRA) secured silver. The bronze medals were shared by Martin Trunecek from the University of Hradec Kralove (CZE) and Jan Zandecki of Zamojski Academy (POL).

At the medal ceremony, the athletes were presented with their awards by Burdur Deputy Governor Okkes Faruk Karakurt, Burdur Member of Parliament Prof. Dr. Adem Korkmaz, MAKU Rector Prof. Dr. Huseyin Dalgar, and protocol members.

On the final day, ETTU President Pedro Moura joined the official closing activities and exchanged gifts with Gyorgy Kovacs, Chair of the EUSA Student and Alumni Commission (SCAC), and Prof. Dr. Huseyin Dalgar, Rector of MAKU. The gesture reflected the spirit of cooperation between federations, universities, and national sports organisations working together to develop table tennis at the student level.

The Closing Ceremony of the European Universities Table Tennis Championship was a memorable and pleasant event, marking the end of an incredible week filled with intense competition, matches, new friendships, adventures, and a great time spent in Burdur.

The next EUC will take place in Covilha, Portugal, in 2027, but before that, we invite all Table Tennis student-athletes to join us at the European Universities Games 2026 in Salerno, Italy.
