EUC Rugby 7s 2025 comes to an end

The European Universities Rugby 7s Championship 2025 has officially concluded on 24 July with an exciting Closing Ceremony held at the Bilkent University Stadium, marking the unforgettable connection between two huge university campuses, athletes, officials, volunteers, and Rugby 7s fans.

The event brought together athletes, officials, volunteers, organisers, and fans in a joyful celebration of achievement, friendship, and sporting excellence. A total of 10 men's teams and 5 women's teams, summing up a number of over 220 participants representing 15 universities from 6 countries, took part in this year’s Championship.

This diverse representation turned the Championship into a genuine display of European unity through sport, where numerous languages, cultures, and traditions converged on a single stage.

In the men’s final, the title of champions went to San Jorge University (ESP), which triumphed in a thrilling match against the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour  (FRA) with a last possession point. The bronze medal was proudly celebrated by Nova University Lisbon (POR).

In the women’s final, played by the top two French teams, the title of champions went to the University of Bordeaux (FRA) following an exciting victory over the University of Toulouse (FRA). Both final matches showcased intense competition, enthusiastic crowds, and emotional moments. The bronze medals were earned by the athletes from Ankara University (TUR).

The medals and awards were presented by Agita Abele, SCAC Chair; Prof. Dr. Kursat Aydogan, Rector of Bilkent University; Prof. Dr. Feride Pınar Acar, Vice Rector of METU; Dr. Taner Zorbay, Advisor to the Rector at METU; Emre Akti, Vice President of the Turkish Rugby Federation; Maria Gloyscsos, EUSA Rugby 7s Technical Delegate; Ahsen Kucukdurmaz, Chair of the Organising Committee from Bilkent University, and Barıs Sozeri, Chair of the Organising Committee from METU.

The MVP award in the women's competition was given to Laurea Berrieix from the University of Bordeaux, while the Wooden Spoon Award was given to METU - Middle East Technical University (TUR).

The MVP award in the men's competition was given to Eduardo Martin Tutard from San Jorge University, while the Wooden Spoon Award was given to the University of Debrecen (HUN).

The Fair Play Award was given to Eduarto Torres Moreira from the University of Porto.

Upon the closing speeches given on behalf of the University senior management members and EUSA SCAC Chair, Agita Abele, the EUSA flag was passed to the representatives of  Zaragoza University, who will organise the next European Universities Rugby 7s Championship in 2027.

This symbolic moment marked the official end of this year's Championship and passed on the responsibility and excitement to the next host city.

Throughout the Championship, the competition was marked not only by top-level performance but also by strong values of sportsmanship, cultural exchange, and mutual respect. The dedicated volunteer team of over 40 local and international students played a key role in ensuring that the event ran smoothly from start to finish.

Participants also enjoyed cultural side events, local hospitality, and the celebratory spirit that surrounded the city during the Championship.

“Being part of this organisation made me feel like a member of an international family”, shared Nesrin Serra Kosgeroglu, praising the event’s organisation and welcoming atmosphere.

From stunning comebacks and surprise victories, this year's edition brought countless unforgettable moments both on and off the field.

We invite all the interested teams to join us for the Rugby 7s competition that will be part of the sports program of the European Universities Games in Salerno, 2026, and the next EUC that will take place in Zaragoza, Spain, in 2027.
