The final day of the European Universities Rowing Championships 2026 in Zagreb brought an exciting conclusion to four days of competition, as student-athletes from across Europe battled for the final medals before joining rowing enthusiasts in a joyful celebration of sporting excellence, fair play, and international friendship.

More than 460 student-athletes and team officials from 75 universities across 23 European countries gathered in Zagreb, where the European Universities Rowing Championships 2026 showcased the passion, dedication and competitive spirit of university rowing.

On the final day, the morning session opened with the Men's M4-, where the University of Zagreb claimed gold, finishing ahead of the University of Mainz and Oxford Brookes University. Women's W4- Champions were University of Lyon with the gold medal and Universitz of Savoy Mont Blanc with the silver medal. 

In the Men's M4x, Dresden University of Technology took gold, followed by West Pomeranian University Szczecin and Reading University. The Women's W2 title went to Copenhagen University, with the University of Paris taking silver and the University of Nottingham bronze.

The Women's W1x final saw a victory of RIT Croatia cross the finish line first, ahead of Szechenyi Istvan University and the University of Tartu.

In the Men M2-, the University of Vienna claimed gold, while the University of Split secured silver and Turin Polytechnic bronze.

The Men M2x title went to Vytautas Magnus University, followed by Latvia University of Agriculture and University of Stuttgart, while the M/W 8+ final brought another gold for the University of Zagreb, with University of Lorraine taking silver and Technical University of Munich bronze.

 The afternoon session continued with exciting racing. In the Men's LM1x, University of Technology of Compirgne won gold, followed by the University of Belgrade and the University of Porto.

The Women LW2x title went to Masaryk University, with The Queen's University of Belfast taking silver and Reading University bronze.

In the Women W4x, University of Zagreb added another gold medal to its collection, finishing in 7:00.25 ahead of University of Lorraine and Technical University of Munich. The Men's LM2 title went to the University of Aveiro, followed by Queen's University Belfast and Szechenyi Istvan University.

The Men's M1x final saw Reading University take gold, with the University of Latvia winning silver and Vytautas Magnus University bronze. In the Women's W2x, Reading University claimed another gold, while the University of Split took silver and the University of Toulouse bronze.

The final race of the championship, the Men M8+, delivered another thrilling finish. Oxford Brookes University claimed gold, with the University of Zagreb taking silver and the University of Bristol bronze.

In the LW1x category, the winners were the University of Zagreb, taking the gold medal, the University of Oxford taking the silver one and Health and Medical University Potsdam with the bronze. 

The final race of the championship, the Men M8+, delivered another thrilling finish. Oxford Brookes University claimed gold, with the University of Zagreb taking silver, and the University of Bristol bronze.

The race in the W8+ saw the University of Zagreb with gold, Oxford Brookes University with silver and the Technical University of Munich with bronze.

With the final medals awarded, the University of Zagreb was crowned the Best University of EUC Rowing 2026, finishing the championship with an impressive six medals - five gold and one silver.

The Championship was about much more than racing. Many volunteers, including local and international students, played an essential role in ensuring the event ran smoothly from start to finish. Beyond the competition, participants and visitors had the opportunity to experience the cultural programme, explore Zagreb, and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere throughout the Championship. The event once again highlighted how university sport can bring together competition, culture, volunteering, and international friendship.

The Closing Ceremony also marked the symbolic handover of the EUSA flag to the next host. With the 2026 edition concluding in Zagreb, the flag was passed to the host of the next European Universities Rowing Championship, Hungary and the city of Sukoro, marking the continuation of this European university rowing tradition.
