EUC Handball 2025 has ended in Covilha

The European Universities Handball Championship Covilha 2025 has finally concluded on 28th with an exciting Closing Ceremony at Venue Nº1 from the University of Beira Interior.

The ceremony brought together athletes, volunteers, organisers, and fans in a joyful celebration of achievement, friendship, and sporting excellence.
Over 550 participants from 18 Universities from 9 countries took part in this year’s edition of the event.

This diverse representation made the Championship a true display of European unity through sport, with numerous languages, cultures, and traditions converging on one stage.


In the men’s finals, the title of champions went to the University of Côte d´Azur (FRA), which won a thrilling final match against Stefan Cel Mare University of Suceava (ROU). The bronze medal was won by the University of Zagreb (CRO). 


In the women’s finals, the title of champions went to the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUN), which won an exciting final match against the University of Leon (ESP). The third place on the podium was occupied by Polytechnic University of Bucharest (ROU).

Both matches delivered intense competition, loud crowds, and emotional moments, creating memories that will last a lifetime for players and spectators alike.

The medals and awards were presented by the President of the Organizing Committee, Joao Nunes, Vice-President of the Portuguese Handball Federation, Joaquim Escada, Representative of the European Universities Handball Championship, Pedro Sequeira, Vice President of the Portuguese University Sports Federation, Joao Alves, City Councilor, Jose Oliveira, EUSA Handball Technical Delegate, Paivi Mitrunen, and EUSA  Assistant Technical Delegate, Urmo Sitsi.

The Fair Play award in the women's competition went to the University of Valencia (ESP), while in the men's category was won by the Unviersity of Zagreb (CRO).
Related to the Fair Play, as a vital part of EUSA competitions, the white card was introduced at the EUC Handball by the Local Organizers, as a symbol of fair play, recognizing and promoting acts of sportsmanship during the competition.

The Top Scorer award in the men's competition was won by Niko Marakovic from Zagreb University of Applied Science, and in the women's competition by Rebeca Ioana Necula from Polytechnic University of Bucharest (ROU). 

Best Goalkeeper for the men's competition was Clovis Morison from the University of Pau and Pays de L´adour (FRA), and for the women's competition, Barbora Zigraiova from the University of Mainz (GER).

Most Valuable Player awards were given to Rebeca Ioana Necula from Polytechnic University of Bucharest (ROU) and Botond Balazs from Stefan Cel Mare University of Suceava (ROU).

The dedicated volunteer team of over 80 local and international students played a key role in ensuring that the event ran smoothly from start to finish.

We invite all the interested teams to join us for the Handball competition that will be part of the sports program of the European Universities Games in Salerno, 2026, and the next EUC that will take place in Podgorica, Montenegro, in 2027.
