EUC Handball 2023 all set in Podgorica

The Opening Ceremony of the European University Handball Championship – Podgorica 2023 took place on 8th July in Podgorica at Sports and Cultural centre of the University of Montenegro.

The European Universities Championship in Handball is taking place from 9th to 14th July in Podgorica in Sports center Moraca and Sports and Cultural centre of the University of Montenegro. 

The Ceremony was attended by Mr Matijaz Pecovnik, EUSA Secretary General, Mr Milan Zvan, EUSA EC member, Mr Vasilije Lalosevic, Minister of Sports and Youth in Government of Montenegro, Mr Zoran Medenica, President od Students Sports Association of Montenegro, Mr Petar Kapisoda, President of Handball Federation of Montenegro, Ms Paivi Mitrunen, EUSA Tehnical Delegate for Handball and members of the European Handball Federation Hall of Fame – Ms Katarina Bulatovic, Ms Bojana Popovic and Ms Maja Savic.

On behalf of the Organising Committee participants were welcomed by President od Students Sports Association of Montenegro Mr Zoran Medenica.

EUSA Executive Committee representative Mr Milan Zvan welcomed all participants and wished all the teams and participants who came to test their skills and abilities well ahead of the start of the competition, while also thanking the Organising Committee for all their contributions.

Mr Vasilije Lalosevic, Minister of Sports and Youth in Government of Montenegro also gave a speech and welcomed all the athltes, officials and participants to the great event and competition that will follow in the next days. 

The competition is organised by Students Sports Association of Montenegro and University of Montenegro. Student sports in Montenegro have been constantly improving, changing and getting better in the past decade. In in 2022, over 2200 students participated in thirteen competitions organized by Students Sports Association of Montenegro, that over 150 league matches were played and that we organized six national championships. This is the sixth European University Championship organized by the Student Sports Association of Montenegro, and in addition, it has organized two World University Championships.

EUSA is represented by Mr Milan Zvan, SCAC Chair  and the Technical Delegate of Handball Ms Paivi Mitrunen. They will make sure that the event will run smoothly and without problems. The Competition will host 23 teams – 12 women and 11 men teams from 19 universities from 11 countries – Germany, France, Croatia, Norway, Portugal, the Netherlands, Romania, Great Britain, Hungary, Spain, and host Montenegro.

The title of European Universities Handball Champion is defended by University of Granada (ESP) man team and Vincent Pol University in Lublin (POL) women team.

The athmosphere of the Opening Ceremony that marked the start of one more amazing and eventfull European Unviersities Championship in Handball, was  also boosted up with a great musical and dance performance.

Before the start of the Opening Ceremony, the General Technical Meeting took place, hosting the draw of the competition and sharing important information with the officials and athletes.
