EUC Golf 2019 action underway in Antequera

The Opening Ceremony of the 2019 European Universities Golf Championship took place on June 24 at the Antequera town hall in Málaga, officially commencing the sixth edition of the Championships following the successful event in Liberec, Czech Republic two years ago.

The Ceremony was attended by participants, citizens, as well as several VIPs, among them the Mayor of Antequera Mr Manuel Jesús Barón Ríos, Chancellor of the University of Málaga Mr José Ángel Narváez Bueno, Executive Committee Member of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) Mr Jean Françoise Sautereau, President of the Organising Committee Mr Pedro Montiel Gámez, and others.

On behalf of the Organising Committee, participants were welcomed by Mr Narváez Bueno, Chancellor of the University of Málaga. He pointed out that “sport is an added value in the university and we encourage it to be always present in our students”. The Chancellor also noted the importance of this type of Championship being organised by a public university, “the university being the place of knowledge”.

EUSA Executive Committee representative Mr Sautereau (EUSA SCAC) welcomed all participants and wished all the teams and participants who came to test their skills and abilities well ahead of the start of the competition, while also thanking the Organising Committee for all their contributions.

The competition is organised by the Spanish University Sports Federation and the University of Málaga with the contribution of the Spanish Royal Golf Federation and Antequera Municipality. The University of Málaga has previously organised the European Universities Championships in Handball, Futsal and BeachVolleyball; and the World University Championship in Handball, Futsal and Judo with great success.

EUC Golf 2019 will take place between June 23 and 27 in Antequera. EUSA is represented at the event by Mr Jean Francoise Sautereau, Mr Besim Aliti and the Technical Delegate is Mr Miha Kürner, who will ensure the smooth-running of the event.

The competition involves eight men and eight women teams, from 10 universities from six countries, with the University of Stirling (UK) the defending champions in both the men’s and women’s competition.
