EUC Combat Sports 2023 kicks off in Zagreb

The Opening Ceremony of European Universities Combat Championships took place on 20 July in Zagreb at the "Dom odbojke" sports hall.

 

The Ceremony was attended by Mr Davor Pavlovic president of the Organising Committee, Mr Adam Roczek president of Eurpoean University Sports Association (EUSA), Mr Haris Pavletic, President of the Croatian Academic Sports Federation (HASS), Mr Luka Juros Representative of the City of Zagreb, Mrs Jasenka Ostojic Vice-Rector of the University of Zagreb and Mr Josip Pavic State Secretary of Ministry of Turism and Sports.


On behalf of the Organising Committee participants were welcomed by President Mr Davor Pavlovic.

 

EUSA President Adam Roczek welcomed all participants and wished all the teams and participants who came to test their skills and abilities well ahead of the start of the competition, while also thanking the Organising Committee for all their contributions.


The competition sees student-athletes from across Europe compete in the disciplines of Judo, Taekwondo, Karate and Kickboxing.


It is organised by Zagreb University Sports Federation and University of Zagreb, with the contribution of partners such as Ministry of Tourism and Sport, Croatian Academic Sports Federation, City of Zagreb, Student Council of the University of Zagreb, Student Center of the University of Zagreb, Zagreb Sports Federation, Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Zagreb, Croatian Karate Federation, Croatian Taekwondo Federation, Croatian Judo Federation, Croatian Kickboxing Federation, ZET (Zagrebački električni tramvaj), Pride, and Jana.


This is the second consecutive edition of EUC Combat Championships that is being held in Zagreb, after the 2019 edition: over 1500 partecipants from nearly 400 universities in 31 European countries will gather at the same "Stjepan Radić" Student Village (largest Croatian student dormitory) that hosted them four years ago, and which will serve as their home until the end of this week.

Zagreb also successfully co-hosted European University Games in 2016.

Championship will take place from July 20 to 23.


EUSA is represented by Treasurer Mr Francis Cirianni, Marketing Council Mr Suleyman Kocasert and the Technical Delegates are Mr Wieslaw Black, TD in Judo, Mr Romeo Desa, TD in Kickboxing, Mr Nuri Shirali, TD in Taekwondo and Mr Luka Pozgaj, TD in Karate, as well as representatives from EUSA Staff, Mr Miha Zvan EUSA Sports Manager, Mr Andrej Pisl, EUSA Communications and Projects Manager, Ms Aleksandra Andreeva EUSA Sports Administrator, Mr Salvatore Sisca, EUSA Media Coordinator and Ms Eszter Guylas, EUSA Sports Officer. They will make sure that the event will run smoothly and without problems.

Prior to the Opening Ceremony, on 20th of July the General Technical Meeting for every discipline took place, hosting the draws for the competitions.
