ECU engages with EUSA online

The European Chess Union (ECU) took time to meet with the Sports Department of the European University Sports Association online on Friday, February 5, as the two partner organisations discussed their respective activities.

ECU and EUSA have been official partners since 2015, when a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two organisations.

Friday’s meeting allowed both EUSA and ECU to update each other on their activities as well as future plans, ensuring each organisation was well-informed of their partner’s events.

Present in the meeting on behalf of EUSA was Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti, Assistant Sports Manager Mr Liam Smith and International Relations Officer Ms Lea Medvesek, and on behalf of ECU, the association’s Secretary General Mr Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou.

Following introductions from both federations, EUSA’s upcoming programme was discussed, following which an update was given regarding the fifth edition of the European Universities Games taking place in Belgrade, Serbia in July this year, where Chess will feature on the official sports on the programme. Safety protocol at the Games was also discussed, with the safety of all participants the priority for both EUSA and the local organising committee.

Both ECU and EUSA will continually support and engage with each other in future events and activities while promoting Chess among students in Europe, especially considering that places are still available for the Chess competition at the European Universities Games this summer.
