December 2023 EUSA Executive Committee meeting

Executive Committee members of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) met online yesterday, for the last meeting of the year.

The meeting started with the welcome address by the EUSA President Adam Roczek and Secretary General Matjaz Pecovnik, followed by report and updates since the last meeting, held at the occasion of the EUSA General Assembly in Kusadasi (TUR) in October.

The Executive Committee members and Auditors were also briefed regarding the very successful summer season of the European Universities Championships, recording over 5300 participants taking part in 19 sports; and the upcoming inaugural edition of the European Universities Winter Championships which will be held in Dolomites, Val di Zoldo December 18-21, 2023. The Winter edition is expected to bring together over 200 participants, taking part in 3 sports (Alpine Skiing, Snowboarding and Snow Volleyball), as well as in education activity in form of the Winter Forum.

The European Universities Games 2024 were also discussed in more details. The event will be hosted next summer by the cities and universities of Debrecen and Miskolc, offering 17 sports and array of educational, social and cultural activities. The registration is opening on December 15, through the national university sports bodies in Europe.

EUSA Executive Committee members also preliminarily approved 9 new Universities as Associate Members. EUSA currently has 47 members - national university sports bodies in 47 countries; and 91 Associate Members – universities in 18 countries.

Based on the proposals received by the EUSA members, new EUSA Student Commission members have been appointed for the 2-year period.

EUSA Executive Committee members also approved the EUSA Development Fund for 2024, with the aim to support the participation of national university sports associations and their university teams on the EUSA Educational and Sport Events; namely European Universities Games Miskolc-Debrecen 2024, EUSA Conference and 25th Anniversary in Vienna, and the EUSA-FISU Seminar 2024 in Salerno.

The members also wished each other, as well as the wider EUSA family, EUSA participants and volunteers peaceful and enjoyable holiday season, and all the best in the year to come.

Next EUSA EC in-person meeting will be held in Aveiro in April 2024.
