Croatian Prime Minister welcomes University Sports delegation

As part of the General Assembly of the European University Sports Association (EUSA), held in Zagreb, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic, together with the State Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Josip Pavic, welcomed a distinguished delegation of international and national university sports representatives.

The meeting, held at the Office of the Prime Minister, took place in a constructive atmosphere, focusing on strengthening cooperation between the Republic of Croatia and international sports organizations that promote academic sport.

Participants in the meeting included:

• Adam Roczek, President of the European University Sports Association (EUSA)

• Leonz Eder, President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU)

• Haris Pavletic, President of the Croatian Academic Sports Federation (CASF)

• Matjaz Pecovnik, Secretary General of EUSA

• Nikola Vincetic, Secretary General of CASF

• Jelena Matesic, Sports Director of CASF

Discussions centered around the continued development of student sport as a key driver of youth education, inclusion, and healthy lifestyles, as well as the enhancement of partnerships between Croatian and European institutions. The delegation also reviewed upcoming projects that will highlight Croatia’s growing role within the international university sports movement.

A special focus was placed on preparations for the European Universities Games Split 2028, the flagship and the biggest event organized by EUSA, which will gather thousands of student-athletes from across Europe.

Prime Minister Plenkovic emphasized the importance of university sports as an integral part of the education system and the development of young people, highlighting how sport fosters the values of excellence, unity, and respect.

All attending delegates conveyed their appreciation to the Prime Minister and his team for their ongoing support and acknowledgment of university sports as a vital part of Croatia’s national sports and education policy, as well as an important element on the global stage.
