Competitions in Basketball and Football start, GTM for Judo held

After yesterday's start of competitions in Canoe Sprint and Futsal at the European Universities Games 2018, today the group stage competitions in Basketball and Football started.

In Basketball, 16 male and 16 female teams are competing for the title of European University Champions, title defended by the University of Bologna (ITA) in men's and University of Strasbourg (FRA) in women's category; these two teams won the title last year at the European Universities Basketball Championship, held in Miskolc, Hungary.

Basketball competitions

In Football, teams from 27 universities, 15 male and 12 female, will compete for the champions' title, defended by the winners of last year's European Universities Champions - Kuban State University (RUS) in men's and University of Montpellier (FRA) in women's competitions.

Football competitions

General Technical Meeting (GTM) in Judo announced tomorrow's start of the competitions in Judo, and after last year's European Universities Championships in Combat Sports – Judo, Karate and Taekwondo, Coimbra is again hosting the best Judokas from European universities.

GTM for Judo

At the meeting, EUSA Sports Manager Mr Besim, together with EUG2018 Secretary General Mr Mario Santos and Sports Manager Filipa Godingo presented general matters, while Judo Competition Commission Chair Mr Francis M.M. Cirianni, EUSA Technical delegate Mr Branislav Crnogorac, assisted by Ms Arijana Jaha, and the local technical delegate Mr Jorge Fernandes presented the rules and competition schedule. 291 participants, representing 109 universities from 21 countries are taking part this year, competing in the next three days.
