Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games are open

Chinese President Xi Jinping officially opened the 31st summer edition of the FISU World University Games on Friday July 28 in Chengdu, capital city of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

 

After a two-year wait, the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games have finally commenced. The Dong'an Lake Sports Stadium witnessed a spectacular opening ceremony, welcoming 6,500 student-athletes from 113 countries eager to participate in the games.

 

The ceremony included marchpass of the participants, greetings from Huai Jinpeng, president of the organising committee and FISU acting president Leonz Eder.


Beautiful artistic performances, athletes' and officials' oaths, and the lighting of the Games cauldron.

 

Running from 28 July to 8 August, the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games, with the slogan of "Chengdu Makes Dreams Come True", is the first international multi-sport Games being held in China after the COVID-19 pandemic.


18 sports and 269 events will be featured in 45 venues and facilities with top-tier infrastructure and service.
