Check-mate at EUC Mindsports 2019

The European Universities Mindsports Championship has concluded on July 28 with a vibrant Closing Ceremony at the University of Physical Education in Budapest, Hungary.

Over 140 participants representing 35 Universities from 19 countries took part in this year’s edition of the event.

The Women’s Rapid Team Championship title went to the Ural State Mining University, with Daria Voit and Polina Shuvalova helping their university to victory.

Similarly, the Men’s Rapid Team Championship title also went to the Ural State Mining University as Maksim Chigaev and Alexandr Predke claimed the gold medal.

In the Blitz Individual event, Daria Voit from Ural State Mining University claimed her second gold medal, while in the men’s category, Kirill Shevchenko from Ukraine’s Lviv University emerged victorious.

In this year’s Bridge competition, the Team Championship title went to Kozminski University from Poland, with Czech Republic’s Charles University taking the runners-up sport and Poland’s Wroclaw University in third.

Liviu Matac at EUC Mindsports 2019

The medals and awards were presented by Mr Liviu Matac, European University Sports Association; Mr Oleksandr Sulypa, EUSA Chess Technical Delegate; Mr Géza Homonnay, the President of the Hungarian Bridge Association, Mr. Harry van de Peppel EUSA Bridge Technical Delegate and Mr Tamás Sterbenz, Vice-Rector of the University of Physical Education, who in his concluding address, declared the Championship officially closed.
