Changchun to host the 33rd Winter Universiade in 2027
Changchun has been awarded the organisation of the 33rd Winter Universiade, set to take place from 15–25 January 2027 in Jilin Province, Northern China. The decision was confirmed on 26 November 2025 by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), following a successful bid presented to the FISU Executive Committee.
In January 2027, student-athletes from more than 50 countries across all five continents will gather in Changchun to compete and experience world-class winter sports venues, including the Jingyuetan, Songhua and Beidahu ski resorts. Alongside competition, the event will offer a rich programme of cultural and educational activities, highlighting the region’s winter sports heritage and local traditions.

FISU leadership underlined the strong legacy expected from the event, building on the success of the Chengdu 2023 FISU World University Games. The Winter Universiade is anticipated to provide long-term benefits for students, local communities and regional development, strengthening expertise in event organisation, volunteering and winter sports infrastructure throughout Jilin Province.

Renowned as the “Capital of Powder Snow”, Changchun brings extensive experience in hosting major national and international winter sports events. With the support of the China Student Sports Federation, the 33rd Winter Universiade aims to be a sustainable and inclusive celebration of university sport, while further reinforcing international cooperation and youth exchange through sport and education.
