Centennial celebration of University Sport in Slovakia

Slovak University Sports Association (SAUS) is celebrating the centennial anniversary of university sport in Slovakia in 2019. Several activities were held throughout the year, and the main event was the anniversary Gala in Bratislava on December 5.

The 100-year milestone was commemorated by guests from Slovakia and abroad, including the representatives of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), lead by its President Mr Oleg Matytsin, European University Sports Association (EUSA), lead by its President Mr Adam Roczek, as well as leaders from other organisations.

Cultural programme

The anniversary Gala was the opportunity for the federation to express the honour to individuals and organisations who devoted themselves to the development of university sport in the country, as well as to celebrate the successes. All participants also enjoyed culinary and cultural delights, prepared by the hosts.

FISU Jean Petitjean Medal awarded to SAUS

On this occasion, FISU also bestowed the Jean Petitjean Medal to SAUS, for its important contribution to international university sports during its long history. SAUS has organised three Winter Universiades (Strbske Pleso in 1987, Poprad in 1999 and in 2015 again Strbske Pleso, together with Granada) and several World University Championships. FISU President presented the award to the President of SAUS Mr Julius Dubovsky. FISU also awarded the Primo Nebiolo Medal to Mr Dusan Hamar, Chair of FISU Medical Committee for his commitment, dedication and long years of service to the university sports movement.

SAUS and EUSA Presidents

EUSA President Mr Roczek also presented an award to the SAUS President Mr Dubovsky, marking the important anniversary and achievements of the organisation.
