ADH Assembly in Potsdam elects new board
At the General Assembly of the German University Sports Federation (ADH) on 18 and 19 November 2018 at the University of Potsdam, the delegates elected a new board.
Focal points of the work of the board will include examining a German application for the Universiade, promoting the educational potential of university sports, promoting student involvement and developing sustainability concepts for university sports.
The current President, managing director of Hamburg's university sports Mr Joerg Foerster was re-elected as the Chair of the board. He is joined in the board by Mr Dirk Kilian (Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences), Mr David Storek (Luneburg University), Ms Maren Schulze (FU Berlin), Ms Johanna Becker (University of Mainz) and Ms Miriam Lange (Coburg University).
Mr Foerster, who has been an honorary volunteer in ADH for 20 years, was pleased with the trust placed in him and the confirmation of the board's previous work. "As a federation, we've done a lot in the last few years and seven decades. We can be proud of that. ADH has now been given a historic opportunity in its anniversary year," says Mr Foerster. For the first time a Universiade was listed in a government program as a major event to be hosted for Germany.
As part of the festive ADH anniversary evening, the guests from politics and sport, Ms Beate Lohmann, head of sports department at the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Mr Alfons Hoermann, president of the German Olympic Sports Federation, strongly supported the German Universiade application.
Apart from the bid intention, it was emphasized that the educational and health potentials of university sports should be promoted more. Other focal points of the ADH work over the next two years will be the promotion of student engagement and the development of sustainability concepts for university sports and their transfer to the higher education landscape.
As part of the assembly, also a student seminar was organised, as well as several awards attributed, honouring the best athletes and universities.
