9th FASU University Games concluded

The 9th FASU - All Africa University Games were held in Mekelle, Ethiopia, between Jul 1 to 8, 2018. The event was organised by the African University Sports Federation (FASU), Ethiopian Public Universities Sport Association (EPUSA) and Mekelle University.

The games' sports program included Athletics, Badminton, 3x3 Basketball, Basketball, Chess, Football, Volleyball, Handball, Table Tennis and Tennis. Apart from the sports competitions, also a Conference / Presidential Forum was held.

Participants were also able to attend the Mekelle World Culture Expo, showcasing different cultures and traditions from Africa and the rest of the world.

The event officially opened on July 1 with the Opening ceremony, and after 5 days of competitions, the event concluded with the Closing ceremony on July 7.

Athletes from no less than 37 universities from 16 countries took home the medals.

3x3 Basketball, one of the sports

Similar to the European Universities Games, the All Africa University Games served as qualifiers for the World University League Finals for 3x3 Basketball (2018), as well as for Football (2019).

At the occasion of the Games, the FASU Executive Committee meeting also took place in Mekelle, and the events were also attended by the representatives of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), lead by its 1st Vice-President Mr Leonz Eder.
