3x3 Basketball: Sport for the 21st century

If you follow world of sport you could see that 3x3 basketball is becoming one of the most popular sports in the world. You could say that the reason is because FIBA 3x3 does an amazing job in popularizing the sport or because 3x3 basketball is exciting and perfect for online streaming and broadcasting because of the length of the games. No matter what, we enjoy it and we are please to enjoy some great basketball in Coimbra.

Fifth edition of 3x3 basketball events will take place this year at European Universities Games in Coimbra and so far each year was followed by a huge progress, both in organizational and competitive level. Last year was especially amazing because the venue was set by the seaside and followed by an amazing number of people each day. We can only hope that it will continue to improve as well as the quality of sport itself.

So far we can see that some teams come more prepared than others and that is seen in their result. If we start analyzing female competition we can see that University of Ljubljana, Slovenia should always be considered to be among the best teams in the competition because so far they managed to win 3 medals at four competitions.

In 2015 they won the gold medal, at EUG 2016 they had to satisfy with the silver and last year in Split they were behind ukranian University Vasyl Stefanyk and Vytautas Magnus University from Lithuania.

In mens competition we have two teams that played against each other 3 times and at all four competitions both universities finished in the top 3. We speak about University of Split, Croatia and University of Kragujevac, Serbia.

Currently, Kragujevac wins 3:1 in number of gold medals won and twice their opponent in the final match was University of Split. Unfortunately in Coimbra we would not have a chance to witness the game between the universities because University of Kragujevac will not participate at EUG 2018.

We have to wait and see will it be University of Split who will win another gold or some other team will join the two as the winners of European Universities Championships and Games.
