2022 General Assembly of COE Conference of INGOs

The 2022 General Assembly of the Conference of International Non-governmental Organisations (INGO) of the Council of Europe took place in a hybrid mode, with the European University Sports Association (EUSA) in attendance.

Two-day meeting took place on April 5 and 6. The participants of the meeting were addressed by Mr Gerhard Ermischer, President of the Conference of INGOs.

During the presentation of the Committee Rights members heard from experts, civil society organisations and human rights defenders and of refugees fleeing the country, on the current situation on Ukraine. Andriy Sadovyi, Mayor of Lviv, among others addressed the audience. Members of the Conference of INGOs, expressed their full supports to the statement of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe condemning the Russian military attack against Ukraine, and an open letter was sent to the Permanent Representations to the Council of Europe on the war in Ukraine.

Discussion on the war in Ukraine

On the second day of the plenary meeting Committees on NGOs as advocates for gender equality and women’s rights, Environment, Climate Change, Heritage and Health, Environmental and health crisis: governance and solidarity issues, Civil Society Committee on the Rights of the Child and Human Rights and Artificial Intelligence Committees presented their work. Committees are set up for a limited period and provide a focus for discussion and research on issues relevant to the work of the Council of Europe.

Presentation on Istanbul Convention

A presentation of Committee on Education and election of members was done at the end of the meeting. During the General Assembly, members voted on the work of the Conference done so far and future steps.
