2021 FISU General Assembly held online

The 37th General Assembly of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) was held from October 29 to 31, online for the first time, with 111 members - National University Sports Federations (NUSF) taking part in the virtual event.

The event started on Friday, with participants being welcomed by FISU Acting President Mr Leonz Eder and Secretary General Mr Eric Saintrond. They also presented the overview of the activities since the last Assembly in 2019, highlighting the achievements, as well as the challenges, heavily marked by Covid-19. The General Assembly confirmed the reports and plans of the Executive Committee, and suspended inactive members who have not paid membership fees for over 4 years.

The Assembly continued on Saturday with discussions on the FISU global strategy, FISU awards, as well as updates on the upcoming World University Games (Universiades), both the winter editions Lucerne 2021 and summer Chengdu 2022.

The event concluded on Sunday with the topics of the FISU World University Championships, FISU University World Cups, and FISU World University Games; the winter editions Lake Placid 2023 and Torino 2025, and the summer editions Ekaterinburg 2023 and Rhine-Ruhr 2025.

At the end, the delegates were thanked by FISU Acting President and Secretary General. The next FISU General Assembly is scheduled to take place in November 2023.
