100 days to Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade
With 100 days to go until the opening of the 33rd Winter Universiade, preparations for one of the major events on the international university sport calendar are entering a new phase.
From 15 to 25 January 2027, the world’s leading student-athletes in winter sports, alongside para student-athletes competing in alpine and cross-country skiing, will come together in Changchun, Jilin Province, in northern China, for FISU’s flagship winter multisport event.
The event will bring together athletes competing across 12 sports, covering ice sports, snow sports and the newly introduced cross-country running competition. The programme includes five ice sports, six snow sports and five cross-country running events, offering student-athletes a diverse platform to compete at the highest level of university sport.

The Games will be hosted across two competition zones. Changchun, the main competition zone, will stage the ice sports alongside several snow disciplines, while Jilin City will host a selection of alpine and snow sports at venues including the Beidahu and Songhua Lake ski resorts.
A significant milestone in the countdown will take place on 8 October, when the Changchun 2027 Flame will be lit in Torino, Italy. Following the ceremony, the Flame will travel to China and tour universities across the country before reaching Changchun for the Opening Ceremony, connecting university communities across China with the upcoming Games.

Beyond the sporting programme, Changchun 2027 will offer opportunities to experience the region's winter sports culture, local traditions and educational and cultural activities. The event is also expected to contribute to longer-term development in areas including volunteering, event organisation, winter sports expertise and international youth exchange.
Known for its winter conditions and extensive experience in hosting major winter sporting events, Changchun will now enter the final 100-day countdown towards welcoming the university sports community. As January approaches, attention will turn increasingly to the athletes, sports, venues, volunteers and stories that will shape the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade.
