Polish University Futsal Championships warm-up for EUG2022
In a couple of months, the European Universities Games will start in Lodz. The Organising Committee are doing their best to deliver the event at a professional level. In the framework of this preparation and in cooperation with its co-organiser – the University Sports Association of Poland (AZS), a 3-day futsal event was held between January 20 and 23 in Lodz.
The women’s futsal semifinal A was the kick-off of the Polish University Championships (AMP) series, which will attract over 20.000 participants, competing in 31 sports, over the course of the academic year.
A record number of 21 futsal teams competed at the futsal AMP semifinals in Lodz. The first place was awarded to the University of Gdansk, the second place to the University of Lodz, and the third one to the University of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. The tournament was a ticket to the final round, for teams placed 1-7.
The competition took place at Zatoka Sportu sports hall and Malachowskiego sports hall, both are the sports venues of the European Universities Games Lodz 2022. The event was a great success in terms of organization as well as sport competition. It was also one of the test events of the European Universities Games which will be held in July this year in Poland.
“We came to Łódź with an aim to qualify to the finals. However I saw that my team gets faster with every game. This is sport and I think that there were more teams that could win the tournament except for us and this makes me even more proud of my girls. From the organizational side the event went smoothly. It is very beneficial for the organizers to test themselves in various sports because the more experience before EUG 2022, the better,” concluded Mr Tomasz Aftanski, the coach of the winning team, University of Gdansk, and also EUSA Technical Delegate for Futsal.
