FISU Forum Krasnoyarsk 2018
The 14th edition of the FISU Forum was held between August 6 and 10 in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. This was the third test event leading up to the Krasnoyarsk 2019 Winter Universiade. Athlete career transition and dual career possibilities were at the heart of this year’s theme, which is ‘Student Sport - Springboard for Innovative Leadership’. This theme resonates deeply with FISU’s motto of 'Today's Stars, Tomorrow’s Leaders’ and the Forum is organised every two years to create a bridge between sport, education and learning.
Organised by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), Russian Students Sport Union (RSSU) in cooperation with the Organising Committee of the Winter Universiade 2019 and hosted by the Siberian Federal University in Krasnoyarsk, the five-day educational programme in the city of the upcoming 2019 Winter Universiade has brought together 170 leaders of university sport from 50 countries from five continents. Throughout the Forum, students, athletes, officials, scientists and other key partners involved in the University Sport Movement and with FISU Member Associations tackled some of the biggest issues that surround university sport.
The event was officially opened by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Ms Olga Golodets, Acting Governor of Krasnoyarsk Territory Ms Alexander Uss, FISU President Mr Oleg Matytsin and FISU EDUC Committee Chair Ms Verena Burk. At the opening plenary, FISU President was joined on stage by Mr Barry Maister, Chairman of the IOC Educational Committee; Ms Burk, FISU EDUC Committee Chair; Ms Natalia Firulina, Advisor to the President of Siberian Federal University; and Mr Richard Hsiao from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, for a lively panel discussion centred around the main topic of the Forum.
Topics addressed at this year's Forum were Innovative Leadership in (university) sport, Equal Opportunities in Sport, Values and Ethics – Good Governance, Dual Career, Project Management. Educational programme - plenary sessions, workshop and group discussions - were accompanied by sports and cultural activities, as well as the Forum fair and 29th Winter Universiade Venue Tour.
At the closing of the 2018 FISU Forum, FISU flag was handed over to the representatives of the Hungarian University Sports Federation (HUSF), which will host the 15th FISU Forum in 2020.
