European Universities Games 2028 and 2030 attributed to Split and Granada
Following the conclusion of the bidding process and the official presentation of the candidatures, two editions of the EUSA European Universities Games have been attributed, to Split, Croatia in 2028 and to Granada, Spain in 2030.
 
The Attribution Ceremony took place at the Auditorium of the University of Aveiro, Portugal, on Saturday, April 20, 2024.
Both the Attribution Ceremony and the previous Executive Committee Meeting on Friday, April 19 were hosted by the Portugal University Sports Federation (FADU) and the University of Aveiro.
 
 
The official presentations by the Bidding Committees, following the order drawn during the Executive Committee Meeting, took place also at the Auditorium of the University of Aveiro, on Saturday morning.
 
 
The Bidding Committee of Manisa 2028 Candidate City was represented by: Mr. Hakan Bebek Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Türkiye / Head of the Department of Sports Services; Ms. Zeynep Kaleli, First Counselor of the Türkiye Embassy of Lisbon; Mr. Mehmet Günay, TUSF President; Mr. Koray Erdemir TUSF Sponsorship and Marketing Committee Chairman, Ms. Aslı Ozdendir, TUSF Internal Relations.
 
 
The Bidding Committee of Split 2028 Candidate City was represented by: Mr. Ivica Puljak, Mayor of the City of Split; Mr. Stipe Cogelja, Vice-Prefect of Splitsko Dalmatisnka County; Mr. Nikola Koceic Bilan, Vice Rector of the University of Split; Ms. Jelana Matesic, CASF Sports Director; Mr. Nikola Vincetic, CASF Secretary General; Mr. Luka Grubor, Olympic gold winner and Vice President of Split Academic Sports Association.
 
 
The Bidding Committee of Granada 2028 Candidate City was represented by: Mr. Fernando Molinero Revert, General Director of the Spanish Sports Council; Ms. Maria Francisca Carazo Villalonga, Mayor of Granada; Prof. Pedro Mercado Pacheco, Rector of the University of Granada; Ms. Ana Isabel Agudo Martinez, Councilor of the City Hall of Granada; Mr. Jordi Joan Mercade Torras, Director of the Sports Centre of the University of Granada.
 
 
After all the official presentations, the Executive Committee held Q&A sessions with all the Candidate Cities, before casting their votes and attributing the EUSA flagship editions of the event for 2028 and 2030.
 
The awarding ceremony was held at the end of FADU Summit, in the presence of the highest local and university authorities, EUSA Executive Committee members, guests, and students, including Secretary of State for Sport Mr. Pedro Dias, Rector of the University of Aveiro Prof. Paulo Jorge Ferreira, and FADU President Mr. Ricardo Nora.
The delegation of the European governing university sports body was represented by EUSA President Adam Roczek and EUSA Secretary General Matjaz Pecovnik.
 
 
The ceremony was moderated by TV journalist Ines Goncalves, who greeted the audience and invited Mr. Pedro Dias to the stage for a welcoming speech.
 

Right after a short video that showed the Candidate Cities in these last days of official presentations, President Roczek took the floor for the official announcements.
 
 
The first edition of EUSA European Universities Games to be attributed during the event was the 2028 one, which went to the city of Split, Croatia. The EUG2028, the 9th edition of the event, will be held in Dalmatia, with Croatia having the possibility to host the Games for the second time after Zagreb-Rijeka 2016.
 
 
The official signing of the Attribution Agreements saw Mr. Ivica Puljak, Mr. Koceic Bilan, and CASF Vice President Mr Toni Gamulin receiving the attribution, in the name of their Bidding Committee.
 
 
Then the 2030 edition of EUSA European Universities Games was attributed by Mr Roczek to the city of Granada. The EUG2030, 10th edition of the event, will be then held in Spain: for the Iberian country it will be the second time hosting such an event, after the very first edition of the Games held in Cordoba in 2012.
 
 
The official signing of the Attribution Agreements saw Ms. Carazo Villalonga and Prof. Mercado Pacheco signing the official documents, in the name of their Bidding Committee.
 
 
These two just-announced editions of the EUGs will be held after this July 2024 edition in Debrecen-Miskolc, Hungary and 2026 summer edition of the European Universities Games in Salerno, Italy.
