EUG 2028 Technical Visit in Granada

The last of three EUSA Technical Commission visits was held between March 11-13, 2024, in Granada, Spain, as it is one of the 3 Candidate Cities to host the European Universities Games 2028.

The Commission, composed of EUSA Sports Manager Mr Miha Zvan and EUSA Sports Officer Ms Eszter Gulyas, was welcomed by Mr Jordi Mercadé - Director for Sports of the University of Granada and other members of the Bidding Commission. 

The visit started with evaluating the first venues located in the Fuentenueva Campus, representing one of the main centers for sports activities, offering a wide variety of sports facilities for the student-athletes, mainly with courts for football, tennis, padel, rugby, and other sports. 

On Tuesday, the second day of the packed EUSA Technical Commission visit started with a Technical Meeting in the Espacio V Centenario" Building, where the EUSA delegation met with Mr Jorge Iglesias - City Councillor for Sports, Ms Ana María Agudo - City Councillor for Mobility and Security, Ms Irene Pedreira - Director for International Projects and Networks of the University of Granada and Mr Jordi Mercadé- Director for Sports of the University of Granada and many other members of the University of Granada and the Bidding Committee.

The day continued with visits to the catering areas and additional sports venues, such as: “Ciudad Deportiva de Armilla”, the water sports facilities “Campus Nautico”, “Estadio de la Juventud” Sports Hall, and “Paquillo Fernández” Sports Hall.

Accommodation and catering locations were also presented in the second half of the day, with the visits to “Emperador Carlos V” University residence and the Cartuja University Canteen.

The day was then wrapped up with a visit to the University Campus of Cartuja, which has a recent and intense history that completes the cultural settlements, as well as a great sports pavilion.

This was the last of three EUSA Technical Commission visits, which will be followed by the EUSA Evaluation Commission later in the month.

The official attribution of the next European Universities Games organizer will be taken in April 2024 in Aveiro, Portugal, where the EUSA Executive Committee Meeting will be held.
