5th European University Basketball Championship

5th EUROPEAN UNIVERSITIES BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Gorzow Wielkopolski was the host city of the 5th European University Basketball Championship, which took place from June 28 to July 2, 2005. 8 women and 12 men teams came to Poland to fight for the titles of the champions, amongst them for the first time in the history also the men team from the new EUSA member country - Turkey. There were a lot of young people involved in the organisation of the event; the social programme that was organised in the evenings was especially appreciated by the students; and a lot of new friendships were made during the championship.
The matches were played on a very good level, some matches were extremly tight. The women finals between the University of Ljubljana (SLO) and the host team from State Vocational School of Higher Education Gorzow Wlkp. (POL) was the remake of the last year. Slovenians successfully defended the title, winning 61:52.
In the men finals the debutant team from Turkey; the Bahcesehir University won against University of Nis (SCG) with 70:51. The last years finalists from Slovenia and Cyprus finished on 5th and 7th place, what bears witness of the high quality of this years tournament.
