EUSA General Assembly 2012

European University Sports Association – EUSA held its 13th General Assembly on March 17, 2012 in Maribor, Slovenia, hosted by the Slovenian University Sports Association (SUSA).

The assembly was a special one, not just because it reflected the most successful year in the history of the organisation, but also because it was an elective one. The mandate of the quadrennial term of the existing Executive Committee Members which started in 2007 came to an end, and a mew Executive Committee needed to be elected for the period 2012-2016.

After the Opening of the Assembly by the current EUSA President Mr Alberto Gualtieri and on behalf of the hosts prof. dr. Otmar Kugovnik as SUSA President, prof. dr. Dejan Skorjanc welcomed the participants on behalf of the University of Maribor, as its Vice-Rector.

The representatives of the other Continental University Sports Federations then addressed the EUSA members associations and the EUSA Executive Committee. Mr Yanqing Xue, Vice Secretary General of the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF) and Mrs Peninnah Aligawesa Kabenge, Secretary General of the Federation of Africa University Sport (FASU) thanked EUSA for the invitation and expressed their gratitude for the participation.

They both praised EUSA for its achievements and successes and good organisation, which also serves as a model for the rest of the continental organisations.

The Assembly then confirmed Mr Stefan Bergh from Sweden as the Chair of this year’s assembly, and the proceedings went on by approving the Agenda and the minutes of the previous Assembly. The next point brought new peak in EUSA’s history, as two federations have been accepted as new members of EUSA: Armenian Student Sports Federation and the University Sports Federation of Liechtenstein.
